About Us

Michelle Auer, MS OTR is the Executive Director of Auer Therapeutic Services. She is an occupational therapist with over 12 years of experience in a wide variety of settings including schools, out patient, in-home care, and hospital sub-acute care.

As the parent of a child with ADHD/SPD Michelle knows that
the family is an integrated system: when one member experiences positive growth, all members are positively affected. She provides caring, thoughtful, and fun therapy experiences for your child with special needs, incorporating the needs of the family as a whole.

Michelle also understands the challenges of providing the best intervention for your child
while balancing the household budget. She is widely known as the "Frugal Occupational Therapist" for her natural talent at finding fun, inexpensive and everyday materials to support therapy in the child's home. In-home services may make use of everyday materials already found in your household, or easily obtained at dollar and discount stores.

Michelle is Board certified as an Occupational Therapist. She has received specialized training in Sensory Integration, Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT), and the use of Hippotherapy, which is a fun, interactive treatment that facilitates rapid developmental progress. Michelle is certified through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) and the American Hippotherapy Association to use Hippotherapy as a treatment modality. In addition, she has up-to-date experience in the use of other motor-based treatment approaches.

Christopher R. Auer, MA, is co-author of the book, Parenting a Child with Sensory Processing Disorder: A Family Guide to Understanding and Supporting Your Sensory-Sensitive Child which describes a range of activities to strengthen family relationships, build resiliency, and communicate effectively with service providers to ensure the best outcomes for the entire family. He holds licensure as a director of special education and is the parent of three children, one of whom is diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and sensory processing disorder. He also has the unique perspective of a sibling to a person with an autism spectrum disorder.
